Treatment at Apex Performance Clinic

At Apex Performance Clinic, each treatment is tailored specifically to the individual. We use a combination of techniques including deep tissue massage, soft tissue release, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, cupping massage, joint capsule mobilisation, orthopaedic massage and active isolated stretching. Collectively, these techniques are referred to as corrective manual therapy.

Corrective manual therapy can be used to treat various types of injuries, not just those resulting from sports and activity. This form of therapy has been proven effective for the treatment of various sources of pain such as those derived from postural issues, scar tissue, joint misalignment, repetitive strain injuries or reduced range of movement, as well as the management and treatment of chronic pain. You do not need to be an athlete to benefit from this type of treatment. Regardless of how active or sedentary your lifestyle is, pain and discomfort can arise. This could be from activities as simple as sitting in front of a computer screen, the angle at which you sit in front of the television or the way you walk. Everyone is likely to experience pain or discomfort at some stage throughout their lives that can be resolved through the deployment of corrective manual therapy treatments.

The cause of pain is not always located where the pain is felt and other parts of the body may also require treatment. Corrective manual therapy is performed slowly and is very thorough, with the therapist specifically taking ‘cues’ from the body, and how tissue and muscles present and react throughout diagnostics and treatment.

The initial aim of each treatment is to relax the nervous system through a series of massage techniques, so that we can get deeper into the tissue and resolve any ‘dysfunction’ that may be causing problems. These treatments do not have to be painful to be effective, though often clients will describe a ‘good pain’ as the treatment addresses problem areas.

Following a corrective manual therapy treatment, you will be provided after care including exercise and advice. The therapist will discuss lifestyle issues if appropriate, demonstrate any recommended exercises or provide you with postural advice to ensure you are actively involved with and fully in control of your recovery.
